I fondly remenber teaching my 4 year old younger sister to read using the Ladybird Key Words Reading Scheme, when she finished one book I used my pocket money to buy the next one in the series.
I was still a child myself and enjoyed them as much as she did. I enjoyed the full page color pictures and the idyllic scenes of happy sunny days and later on I used the same books to teach my own children to read. Now the earliest editions are collector items that reflect an idealized less politically correct way of life but they still have a charm and are a window into a different era . The latest editions of the Ladybird books are still used by parents and teachers and are available on Amazon. For more on the Ladybird books range see https://www.penguin.co.uk/ladybird/
